Karen A. Newton Cole is the Executive Director of Neighborhood Legal Services Program (NLSP) of the District of Columbia. She has served as NLSP’s chief executive since July 2017. Under her leadership, NLSP has expanded its SE presence – opening a neighborhood law office with attorneys from 3 practice areas and launched a new practice, the Economic Security Unit. In 2018, Ms. Newton Cole received the Advocate for Justice Award from the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law. Currently, Ms. Newton Cole serves as the Co-Chair of the DC Consortium of Legal Services Providers.

Monique Riviere manages organization-wide projects at NLSP, collaborating with numerous teams to figure out what needs to be done to bring ideas and plans to fruition. She began her career as a software trainer and then as a database manager and project manager at DC-based nonprofits. Prior to NLSP, she directed a nonprofit program that trained DC residents for jobs in technology. Her other work includes helping people to design their ideal careers and volunteering as a community mediator and conflict coach. Monique received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Information Systems from Howard University.
Ashley started working at NLSP in 2014 as a Staff Attorney. In 2018 she became Managing Attorney for Brief Services, Ashley works with new applicants seeking legal assistance and provides them with initial advice and brief services. Brief Services may include assisting with completing pro se forms, drafting demand letters or conducting brief legal research. In her role as Manager, Ashely oversees the intake process for NLSP, all of the intake workers and the Brief Services attorneys. In this role she has the most responsibilities for the Case Management System in terms of both management and data input.
Lorna McCandless-Moss’ previous legal projects and training sessions include Middle TN Legal Aid Society's Family Law Practice Group Training/Retreat, Equal Justice University hosted by Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services and Race Equity Project session on Understanding Implicit Bias, Debiasing Techniques. Other projects include: A Conversation about Race and Justice Conference with Middle TN Public Legal Service Agencies and planning a firmwide support staff training-serving as Presenter for Self Care: Preventing Burnout, Understanding role of EAP. Lorna has worked for Legal Services Corporation funded organizations in Middle Tennessee, Metropolitan Maryland and currently Washington, D.C. over the past 15 years.
Joseph is the founder and CEO of A2J Tech. Joseph can be found collaborating with advocates to develop user-centered solutions. As both a project manager and a programmer, Joseph is able to efficiently design and implement technology projects. Joseph has presented at the National Legal Aid & Defender Association Conference, the Legal Services Corporation Innovations in Technology Conference, the ABA/NLADA Equal Justice Conference, and the LGBTQ Legal Aid Summit. Joseph is a co-founder of Denver Legal Hackers.
Joseph has earned the Project Management Professional designation from the Project Management Institute and the Certified Scrum Master designation from Scrum Alliance. He holds a MS in Business Administration with a Concentration in Entrepreneurship from the University of Florida and a BS from the United States Air Force Academy. Mauricio Duarte is a lawyer from Guatemala with an LL.M. from the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota) and serves as a Justice Entrepreneur with A2J Tech. Mauricio has a deep background in startups, venture capital, international arbitration, and alternate dispute mechanisms, and has focused primarily on using technology to solve disputes. His previous experience led him to become a Fellow in the Kleros Fellowship of Justice in Law & Society, a TAG Alliances Blockchain & Cryptocurrency Specialty Group Member, as well as an Ambassador at Arbitrator Intelligence and a recent member of the AIAC Technology Expert Committee.
Besides that, Mauricio maintains his practice advising technology startups and technology companies. He is co-founder of Guatemala Legal Hackers and Legal Hackers Podcast (In Spanish), and is a published author on legal technology and innovation topics. Outside of his working life, Mauricio is a marathon runner and triathlete.
David is a developer for A2J Tech. He primarily works on complex document automation and other software development projects. He holds Bachelor’s degrees in English and Computer Information Systems.
His background involves policy and technology consulting in the non-profit education sector. SCUBA-Diving, photography, and traveling are among his favorite pastimes. Currently, he lives in St. Louis, Missouri.
Jeff Porter oversees Clio’s Mid-Market segment as well as Clio’s consulting and app partnerships. He has a history of working with fast growth technology companies and a passion for building app ecosystems that help drive efficiencies and growth for customers.
Tamasin Reno is on Clio’s product design team, focusing on user experience design and user research, with a user-centred approach to her design thinking.
She’s experienced in large-scale software product environments, within cross-functional teams, and has worked in mature product organizations, high growth SaaS start ups, and agencies.
